Noctilicent Clouds, Ballingeary, CorkNoctilucent clouds are rare enough anywhere, but catching them from Ballingeary was something I hadn't expected. These are the highest clouds in Earth's atmosphere, forming around 80 kilometres up, and they only become visible when the sun has dropped far enough below the horizon to leave the ground in darkness while still illuminating those ice crystals at the edge of space. The result is this extraordinary electric blue glow against the deep night
